Palm Pre – die ernste wirkliche iPhone Konkurrenz?

Nach langem, langem Warten ist nun endlich das Palm Pre gelauncht worden. Die Reviews sind draussen und Unkenrufe natürlich auch. Einen wirklich umfänglichen Überblick liefert engadget.

Ultimately — carriers and developers notwithstanding — what Palm has done is not only a major feat for a company of its size (and its dire position), and we think it’s an important step in the evolution of mobile computing. Just like the iPhone’s notches up the ladder, and the G1’s contributions, the Pre moves the game forward in a very real way. We know this won’t be the last of the webOS devices, and we know that as Palm improves its products, so will Apple, RIM, Microsoft, Google, and the rest of the smartphone gang. Unfortunately for them, their work just got a little bit tougher.
Wenn das Palm Pre sicherlich noch einige Schwächen hat, so ist es doch vom Gesamtkonzept das erste Smartphone, das dem iPhone 3G das Wasser reichen könnte. Allerdings ist das Developer SDK noch nicht draussen und der App Store ist auch noch recht mager. Schafft es jedoch Palm, sich sein eigenes Ecosystem aufzubauen und die Entwickler (wieder) zu begeistern, dann ist ein Ernst zu nehmender Player im Markt der Smartphone-Hersteller auferstanden.
